A structured battery record
The EU Battery Regulation provides for electronic battery passports for covered battery categories from 18 February 2027. For EV batteries, the framework concerns batteries placed on the EU market or put into service under the applicable rules. Do not read that as a guarantee that every existing used EV worldwide will have a passport on that date.
A record has different kinds of information
The regulation’s framework distinguishes battery-model information from information about an individual battery. Identity, performance, durability and sustainability information serve different purposes. A manufacturing specification is not a current diagnostic result, and a sustainability field does not establish present driving range. Read the definition and update date attached to each field.
Access is not automatically universal
Access to passport information is differentiated. A consumer-facing view should not be assumed to expose every repair, commercial or operational field. A QR link is an entry point to information; it is not by itself proof of authenticity or a physical inspection. Check that the record matches the battery and that the source is legitimate.

Ask a seller what record actually exists and whether they can lawfully share the relevant parts. Read each field according to its purpose
A digital record is useful when the field definition, battery identity and responsible source are clear. Missing or restricted data must remain missing rather than becoming a guessed value.

An example of an apparent contradiction
Suppose a record lists a rated energy value while a seller’s report gives a lower current usable value. That alone does not reveal degradation: rated, gross and usable energy may have different definitions. First find the passport field definition and the report’s reference. Next check dates and whether a replacement battery is involved. Only then decide whether the two values are comparable. EVVerity does not retrieve records, authenticate QR destinations or calculate a hidden health score from an identifier. Use passport information alongside the warranty documents, charging demonstration and a suitable inspection; keep the original labels when copying values into a tool.
